Congress takes five-week vacation without passing energy bill - By Thomas BurrThe Salt Lake Tribune

It saddens me that our leaders have become so partisan that they can no longer effectively govern our country. Our congressional leaders spend more time blaming each other than actually working for the American People. Several energy proposals from both sides of the aisle are sitting by while Congress is on a five week vacation.

Let's look at the proposals left sitting at the table. It appears that the only thing is that both sides can agree on is that oil speculation has to stop.

While the Republicans are calling for more drilling areas off Americas shores, the Democrats are calling for a use it or lose it policy on current oil leases that are not being used. I think that the oil companies should be using the areas they already have leases on if they want to drill more oil. As I have stated many times, drilling in ANWR or offshore will do nothing in the short or long term except enhance the profits of the oil companies. We will continue to need oil to fuel us in the short term until we can convert to a new source of energy. Drill what has been developed and lets get on with moving this country out of the carbon age.

I am reminded of a question I once saw on a bumper sticker. If pro is the opposite of con is Congress the opposite of Progress? Our government has been rusted by the corrosion of special interest groups and partisan politics and is not effectively working for us. Please contact our leaders and ask them work for the best interest of the American People. Ask them to stand for 100% clean energy production and use in the United States. Tell them that if they continue their ineffective representation of the people they will be fired. It is time to make our leaders accountable to us. This kind of behavior our leaders display at "work," would not be acceptable in a corporate or small business environment.
